CHAI celebrates
60 years of its service to the health of the people
of India
The Catholic Health Association of India celebrates its
diamond jubilee year of service in healthcare from
24 to 26 October 2003 at St. Francis College, Begumpet,
Hyderabad . Archbishop Javier Lozano Barragan, the
president of Pontifical Council for Health Pastoral
Care, Vatican will inaugurate the celebrations .
The
programme will include an international consultation
on the theme “Universal access to health”, Initiating
Health Insurance Scheme and adoption of 210 villages
for improved sanitation, drinking water, housing
and other basic determinants of health. CHAI, the
largest national healthcare network with 3100 member
institutions, was started in 1943 by a group of 16
religious sisters, under the leadership of Sr. Dr.
Mary Glowry at St. Joseph's Hospital in Guntur in
Andhra Pradesh.
