Seventh Day (Feb. 15, '04): CHRIST, THE ULTIMATE SOURCE OF HEALING
Introductory Prayer
Reading : : Mark 5: 25-34
" Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of
your disease "
( Mk 5: 34 )
Reflection: The Woman had been suffering for 12 years. She had
endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had.
She had heard about Jesus. Having tried every other cure that the
world had to offer, she finally approached him.
"When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me."
She said: "If I could but touch his clothes, I will be made well".
She touched his mantle. The woman's faith in Jesus and His love matched. She
got healed. Let us reflect about this process of healing.
- The woman is deeply wounded in herself. Jesus addresses this,
because for him healing is not just of the visible sickness, but
of the inner illness.
- The woman had lived in a state of shame for 12 years. She suffered
a messy uncomfortable disease. No words can adequately describe
her inner illness - shame, the pain of lostness, of social abandonment.
She felt discriminated from everyone in the society because of
her sickness.
- Jesus calls her gently, with compassion: "Daughter!". He addresses
her as a family member. Her physical healing now allows her to
be accepted back into the community. Re-incorporation into the
community is integral to Jesus' healing. This is authentic healing.
Questions for reflections:
- How do I analyze the attitude of Jesus?
- What impression do I get of the woman?
- In what ways, other than physical, was this woman healed?
- How
do I see my attitude to the sick people in general?
- What are
the areas that I should change in my healing ministry?
